Kazakhstan International School Astana is an IB World School offering the International Baccalaureate programme across the continuum, including the Primary Years Programme (PYP) and the Diploma Programme (DP). The Astana campus opened in 2024 and serves Preschool through Grade 9, with Early Years for ages 2–5 and Primary for ages 6–10 (Grade 1–4). The World Class Education approach emphasizes an inquiry-based, globally minded curriculum that fosters curiosity, collaboration, and critical thinking. The mission highlights a growth mindset and a holistic education that connects cultures.
Arts and creative programs are embedded in the school's culture through after-school activities, including Drama, Choir, Piano, Painting, and other arts. A Dombra club introduces students to Kazakh musical traditions. Arts and design technology are supported by specialized staff, including Art & Design Technology and Music teachers.
English is the language of communication in the school. The school is a multicultural learning environment with students and staff from over 20 countries, about 40% expatriates; it promotes international thinking and global awareness and engages locally in Astana and across Kazakhstan. Language clubs in Kazakh, Russian, and French are offered as after-school activities.
After-school activities for Grades 1-3 include a wide range of clubs: Football, Karate, Athletics, Robotics, Hip Hop, Basketball, Chess, Drama, Choir, Dombra, Piano, Painting, Kazakh, Russian, and French. Leadership includes a Secondary Principal, a MYP Coordinator, an EY and Elementary Principal, and a PYP Coordinator/Assistant Principal. The school plans to have an active Parent-Teacher Association with voting rights on the board.
The Early Years Programme is inquiry-led and play-based for children aged 2–6, with experiences that develop literacy, math, and social skills, plus specialist classes in Music, Physical Education, and Art. The Astana campus includes outdoor recreation and sports grounds. A strong PE program is supported by staff including a Physical Education teacher and an Athletic Director/Activities Coordinator.
Kazakhstan International School Astana offers the International Baccalaureate continuum (PYP, MYP, and DP) in Astana's EXPO area. The DP follows six subject groups: Language and Literature, Language Acquisition, Individuals and Societies, Sciences, Mathematics, and the Arts, with three Higher Level and three Standard Level subjects, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay, and Creativity, Activity, and Service. KIS Astana plans an inquiry-led, globally minded curriculum from Early Years through to DP, with PYP in Kindergarten through Grade 5 and MYP in Grades 6-10. The 2024 campus provides indoor and outdoor spaces, including an artificial football pitch, a running track, a tennis court, two indoor pools, a large sports hall, and dedicated spaces for Music, Art, Dance, and Physical Education. After-school options feature Football, Karate, Robotics, Drama, Chess, Dombra, and languages. The school emphasizes a multilingual, culturally diverse community with English as the medium of instruction and a planned Parent-Teacher Association.
