Kazakhstan International School (KIS) was founded over 20 years ago as a Montessori kindergarten in Almaty and is an IB World School offering the International Baccalaureate programme. In 2008, KIS Almaty became an IB World School, offering the Primary Years Programme. In December 2018, KIS Almaty moved to a central, state‑of‑the‑art campus, enabling expansion to Grade 10 and completing the Middle Years Programme. In 2020, the school developed into an all‑through IB school for ages 2–18 and received authorization to deliver the Diploma Programme, with CIS and MSA accreditation processes underway. The brand‑new KIS Astana campus will open in August 2024 with an Early Years campus for ages 2–5 and a Primary campus for ages 6–10 (Grade 1–4) in the EXPO area of Astana. KIS is a community that emphasizes values as well as academics and aims to be a family‑like environment.
At KIS, we are a diverse, multinational community. Our students and staff come from over 20 countries worldwide, with roughly 40% expatriates. We promote international-mindedness and global awareness, while engaging locally to help our community in Astana and across Kazakhstan. KIS is a warm and welcoming community where everyone is valued. KIS PTA is a formal organization composed of parents, teachers, and staff that is intended to facilitate parental participation in schools. The goal of the PTA is to support KIS, encourage parent involvement, support our teachers, and organize family events for KIS. PTA membership is open to everyone. Our PTA team includes PTA members with roles such as President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and liaison positions for Early Years and Primary Years. Kazakhstan International School Astana offers the International Baccalaureate continuum (PYP, MYP, and DP) in Astana's EXPO area. The DP follows six subject groups: Language and Literature, Language Acquisition, Individuals and Societies, Sciences, Mathematics, and the Arts, with three Higher Level and three Standard Level subjects, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay, and Creativity, Activity, and Service. KIS Astana plans an inquiry-led, globally minded curriculum from Early Years through to DP, with PYP in Kindergarten through Grade 5 and MYP in Grades 6-10. The 2024 campus provides indoor and outdoor spaces, including an artificial football pitch, a running track, a tennis court, two indoor pools, a large sports hall, and dedicated spaces for Music, Art, Dance, and Physical Education. After-school options feature Football, Karate, Robotics, Drama, Chess, Dombra, and languages. The school emphasizes a multilingual, culturally diverse community with English as the medium of instruction and a planned Parent-Teacher Association.
