Parent Experience

Community, involvement and what it's like to be a parent at this school

History

Braeburn Nanyuki International School is a member of the Braeburn Group of International Schools. It is a co-educational, multicultural school teaching an international version of the National Curriculum of England for children from age 2 to 13. The campus is located on Cottage Hospital Road in Nanyuki, at the foot of Mt. Kenya, and is set in landscaped gardens with a panoramic view of the mountain. The wood and stone architecture blends with the surrounding environment and large windows maximise natural light in the classrooms.

Community

Movie nights, Family Fun Fridays, workshops, learning celebrations, pop-up cafes and theatre productions are social events organised throughout the year for parents and friends. The Braeburn Nanyuki community also supports external initiatives such as the Mt Kenya Trust 10 to 4 Bike Challenge and projects that assist community, education, health and conservation. The school maintains an open-door policy encouraging parental participation in the learning process through its website, a mobile app and weekly newsletters, and communicates events through these channels. A Parent Forum meets once a term to discuss agenda items with the Headteacher; Parent/Teacher meetings occur three times a year and are supported by written reports.

Parent-Teacher Association

The Parent Forum operates as Braeburn Nanyuki's Parent/Teacher Association, meeting once a term to discuss items raised by parents with the Headteacher. Parent/Teacher meetings take place three times a year to review a child's academic progress and are supported by written reports. Parents and guardians are encouraged to participate in the learning process via the school website, mobile app and weekly newsletters. Appointments may be booked for immediate concerns, ensuring ongoing dialogue between families and staff. This structured channel fosters ongoing conversations between families and Braeburn Nanyuki staff.
