Kenton College Preparatory School was founded in January 1924 at Kijabe, with roots in Kenya Grange at Lumbwa. Finlay Cramb took over an empty German sanatorium and the school moved to Kileleshwa, reopening in January 1935 on the present site. It began as an all-boys, boarding school and grew to more than 100 pupils by 1966. The school became a Trust in 1980, admitted girls for the first time in 1992, and became fully co-educational; it is one of ten IAPS Preparatory Schools in Kenya.
The school fosters a caring community that values diversity and its Kenyan heritage. The Pastoral Care network, led by the Headteacher, includes Heads of Year, House Parents, Form Teachers, a Listening Team, pupil pastoral mentors, the school doctor and nurses, with a Wellbeing programme and a School Council to support pupils. The House System creates community across four Houses—Bongos, Elands, Kudus and Oryx—through inter-House activities, merit rewards, and termly celebrations such as a poolside BBQ and Speech Day. The Kenton Award unites the co-curriculum under one umbrella, rewarding engagement across activities and developing resilience, leadership, teamwork and mental health awareness.
