ISL began in 1962 when Mrs. Batten started a school in a dining room in Strassen. The Dupont School moved to the Servais House in 1963, then to the Cessange elementary campus, and in 1969 relocated to Belair, where it was known as the English Speaking School. In 1972 it moved to the Geesseknaepchen Campus (sharing space with Lycée) and became a non‑profit association, changing its name to the American School of Luxembourg. In 1982 the name changed to AISL, and in 1999 it became ISL. In September 2000 ISL moved to the current Geesseknaepchen campus; the Hillside building opened in 2007, a 2010 extension was inaugurated, and a new Lower School opened in 2013.
