Introduction

Luxembourg Waldorf School (Fräi-ëffentlech Waldorfschoul Lëtzebuerg) welcomes children from age 3 to 18 and follows a Waldorf Steiner curriculum alongside the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. Early learning is optional; Spillschoul lasts two to three years. From first through sixth grade, a form teacher guides the class for six years, after which a regent supports pupils through 11th class. The secondary years run from 7th to 11th and culminate in an IB preparatory year before the Diploma Programme, conducted primarily in French with subjects in German or English. The school's language policy blends Luxembourgish in preschool, German as the primary language of instruction in primary, and French as vehicular in secondary, with English used for select IB courses, notably Visual Arts and Theatre taught in English. The campus includes a Limpertsberg site with buildings, a biodynamic farm at Rollingen/Mersch, and on-site after-care. The Veräin fir Waldorfpädagogik Lëtzebuerg supports administration and development.

Other costs and recurring charges

- Class account: every class maintains a class account to which each family contributes. Anticipate contributions of between EUR 200 and EUR 450 per trimester per child to fund the class account; these funds are used for food, classroom materials and school trips (pre-school, primary, secondary and IB levels as applicable).
- Canteen / meals: warm meals can be ordered weekly via forms circulated by the canteen manager; the canteen also supplies beverages (coffee is priced at EUR 0.50 per cup). Specific meal prices are ordered and billed through the canteen ordering process.
- No compulsory school uniform or uniform fee is published. (Materials, food and trip costs are typically covered via the class account as noted above.)

Refund information

- The registration fee (EUR 150) is refunded if the pupil is not admitted. If the pupil is admitted, the registration fee is credited against the school contributions.

Admissions

Admissions

The school admits students with a range of abilities and backgrounds. There are no hard-and-fast rules for acceptance. Admission depends upon space availability, age, and an assessment of the student's physical, emotional, and intellectual development and needs. An ideal class includes children with different gifts and abilities to reflect the social structure of society. The application form should be completed with a photo of the child. If a place is available, the class teacher will contact the family for an appointment with the child. For Kindergarten and Pre-School the educators decide after meeting with the parents and child, and send an official decision letter. For Primary and Secondary, after the in-person meeting, the child is invited to attend classes for one or two weeks; at the end of the trial period another conversation takes place to make the final decision. There is a waiting list for Primary and Secondary; however, applicants are invited to apply anyway. For the International Baccalaureate, the process is slightly different. Application forms for Spillchoul (Preschool) and for Primary, Secondary and IB are available in German and French.

Scholarships

The school has a social fund which provides financial support for families with limited resources; tuition can be adjusted based on income; families must declare yearly household income to apply for support, and all families receiving financial aid must declare their income at the start of each academic year.

Waitlist

Primary and Secondary levels have a waiting list.
