English and Mandarin are the core languages of instruction. Bahasa Malaysia is compulsory for Malaysian students. In the existing English stream, Mandarin lessons of three hours per week are compulsory until Year 9, available at Basic, Intermediate and Advanced levels. The Mandarin curriculum is an adapted syllabus from China and Singapore focused on second language acquisition, aligned with IEYC in Preschool and IPC in Primary, and Mandarin can be studied as an IGCSE subject in Years 10–11 as a Foreign, Second, or First Language.
HELP International School offers a Preschool to Year 6 Bilingual Programme in English and Mandarin. The program uses two qualified teachers per class, one native Mandarin speaker and one native English speaker. Malaysian students undertake Bahasa Malaysia as a compulsory component. The bilingual programme integrates the British National Curriculum with an adapted Singapore syllabus to support second language acquisition and biliteracy.
The bilingual immersion model runs from Preschool to Year 6. Each class has two fully qualified teachers delivering lessons in both languages. Daily instruction blends English and Mandarin across core subjects: 1.5 hours English literacy, 1.5 hours Mandarin, and Mathematics taught in both languages; IPC is taught in both languages; PE and Music are taught in English. Malaysian students are required to take Bahasa Malaysia as part of their studies. The programme aims for graduates who are bilingual, biliterate and bicultural; Mandarin proficiency is assessed with the Youth Chinese Test (YCT) and Mandarin can be studied as an IGCSE in Years 10 and 11.
