Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

The school uses an eight-area holistic development model. The eight masteries are Intellectual, Physical, Artistic, Social, Career, Emotional, Leadership and Spiritual & Moral Development. Preschool uses the International Early Years Curriculum (IEYC), which lists Social and Emotional Development as one of its six development areas. Social and Emotional Learning is emphasised across the school, with a clear focus on emotional development. The Three-Year Strategic Plan highlights Physical, Emotional, Mental and Moral Strength as core aims, reinforcing student wellbeing. A School Counsellor provides mental health support and wellbeing initiatives.

Special Educational Needs (SEN)

The school is an inclusive institution offering Special Educational Needs (SEN). Up to 10% of pupils in each year group may access learning support. The SENCO leads a team of seven SEN teachers. The SENCO and team work with the primary and secondary pastoral leaders, three Student Counsellors, the EAL department and two school nurses. The SENCO coordinates support across the school, including arranging assessments, maintaining the Additional Learning Needs Register and communicating with parents.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

The school has an EAL department as part of its Student Support Team. The EAL department collaborates with the SENCO and other support staff to assist learners with English language needs. The SENCO information pack notes the EAL department as part of the student support network.

Mental Wellbeing

A School Counsellor provides mental health support. Mental health resources and wellbeing initiatives are communicated through school channels. The Three-Year Strategic Plan includes Physical, Emotional, Mental and Moral Strength as core aims. Blog posts discuss strategies to manage fears and anxiety and emphasize talking about mental health. World Mental Health Day is acknowledged with actions and messaging to prioritise wellbeing.

Safeguarding

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. Recruitment requires child protection screening and safeguarding checks. HELP International School (HIS) is an international school in Subang Bestari, Shah Alam, Malaysia, offering a broad international framework for learners aged 4 to 17. The school follows a British curriculum across Primary, Cambridge IGCSE, and Cambridge A Levels, while also delivering IEYC, IPC and IMYC to support continuity from early years through secondary. Class sizes are capped at 25 students, and from Year 2 onward students use personal iPads.
