The school supports students' social and emotional development through a variety of means. In the Early Years, personal, social and emotional development is a key area of the curriculum, where children learn to form relationships, interact with confidence and express their feelings. MIGS can cater for students with mild Special Educational Needs (SEN). It is not a specialist SEN institution, and its resources are limited in this area. Parents of children with SEN are required to provide a report from a specialist so the school can determine if it has the internal resources to support the student's needs. The school will then assess the student to ensure they can be appropriately placed.
The school has an English as an Additional Language (EAL) program for students who need support with their English proficiency. This program is offered at no additional cost. Students are assessed and then placed in beginner, intermediate, or advanced groups for support. This support is provided through either pull-out sessions, where students receive targeted instruction, or in-class support for those who need it most. The aim is to help students adapt to the English-medium learning environment and succeed academically.
The school has a counseling service as part of its approach to supporting the mental health and wellbeing of students. This service addresses issues like anxiety, mood disorders, and academic challenges. MIGS has a number of policies and procedures in place to ensure the safety and security of its students. All visitors must register and be verified at the guardhouse before entering the school grounds. Students are not permitted to leave the school grounds during school hours without approval from the Head of School. The school also has a supervised waiting area for students who are picked up late. Regular fire and other safety drills are conducted, and the entire school is a designated smoke-free zone.
Mutiara International Grammar School (MIGS) offers a British-style education for students aged 3 to 16, following the Cambridge Assessment International Education pathway and culminating in the IGCSE examinations. Facilities include five science laboratories and two computer labs. A distinctive feature of the school is its weekly themed assemblies for both Junior and Senior schools.
