Founded in 1968 in a colonial home in central Monterrey by Mrs. Betina Elizondo, Mrs. Alma Melo, and Mrs. Betty Wagner, the American Institute of Monterrey began as a private school with high standards. It became the first school in Latin America to be accredited by NEASC and CIS. AIM expanded over the years with purpose-built campuses in San Pedro Garza García, Santa Catarina, and Valle Oriente to serve students from kindergarten through Grade 12. In 2019, AIM joined Inspired Education, a global group of premium schools, and celebrated its 55th anniversary in 2023.
AIM's close-knit community includes students, national and international families, teachers, staff, and alumni who have achieved success across diverse fields. Parents are extremely involved in school life, and collaboration with educators supports student growth and a strong sense of belonging. The alumni community demonstrates success across fields, inspiring current students. International families add a multicultural dimension and participate in events such as International Week.
The AIM Parents' Association plays a key role in the school community. It serves as a strong ally to the school in educating all children, promotes participation, facilitates communication, and nurtures unity across the AIM community. The association's mission is to enhance the AIM experience by providing learning opportunities and building a strong home-school alliance rooted in trust and shared values. The PA is guided by values such as Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Citizenship, and Caring. It is organized into committees formed by parent volunteers, including the Events Committee, Fine Arts, Sports, and the Values Program. Parents and staff collaborate through community events, parent workshops, class coordinators, and the Character Count Program.
