Parent Experience

Community, involvement and what it's like to be a parent at this school

History

ICAM was founded in 1992 by Prof. Martha Pini García and Arch. Manuel Mendoza Sosa, originally named Colegio Tlahuilcalli, meaning 'House of light and wisdom' in Nahuatl. It has evolved to adapt its educational system to social change and to the interests and needs of children, even as the name changed. Today it is led by a second and third generation of education professionals, with roots still present in its history. Its philosophy is Humanist, guiding learning through exploration, experiences, and meaningful projects—experiential learning. Its educational model is Constructivist and anti-authoritarian, prioritizing listening, dialogue, project-based learning, and scaffolding to help students solve problems, with Piaget and Vygotsky as influential figures.
