Yangon International School (YIS) was established in 2004 as a private, college-preparatory school in Yangon. It has grown into a networked institution with campuses serving Yangon and Mandalay to broaden access within Myanmar. The school offers an American-based curriculum and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme for Grades 11 and 12, reflecting its college-preparatory orientation. In the 2023–2024 academic year, YIS celebrated its 20th anniversary, marking two decades of operation and alumni development. As a networked school, YIS emphasizes preparation for higher education and global citizenship.
YIS has a diverse community with families, faculty, and alumni from more than 25 nationalities. Families and students participate in annual events and cultural activities coordinated by the school and its activities programs. The school maintains alumni networks and student services, including English as an Additional Language (EAL) support and college counseling, to support learning and transitions to higher education.
The Yangon International School operates a Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) made up of dedicated parent volunteers, including seven officers and 26 class representatives, which plays a central role in building a strong school community. The PAC organizes a range of events throughout the year, including Myanmar Food Day, the Schoolwide Fun Fair, and parent-led initiatives such as YIS Help Portrait. It also supports key school events and parent-teacher engagement, including Welcome Lunches, Parent-Teacher Conferences, signing ceremonies, graduation gifts, and cultural celebrations. The 2025–2026 PAC executive includes Chairperson Ma Htar Htar Nwe, Co-Chair Ma April Than Htoo, and Secretary Ma Win Thuzar Kyaw, along with treasurers for the Elementary, Middle, and High School divisions. PAC class representatives cover each grade from Early Childhood through Grade 12 to ensure broad parent involvement. The PAC also contributes to student programs such as YMUN events, leadership initiatives, and community service efforts.
