AIS is an official IB World School offering the Primary Years Programme (PYP). The Primary Years Programme focuses on the development of the whole child as an inquirer, both in school and in the world beyond. IB programmes are value-based and emphasize education for a better world, with inclusion and equal opportunities central to AIS. AIS aims to empower internationally minded and successful learners in a continually changing world.
The school has specialist teachers for arts who visit a few times a year to deliver Dutch-language arts lessons. The arts provision is supported by AIS's language and culture approach, including Dutch-language arts delivery by visiting specialists. The reimagined library and library resources contribute to language development and creative engagement with books in English and other languages.
The language of instruction is English. Dutch is taught as host country language, and AIS engages in immersion with Dutch peers through interaction with De Kubus. Twice a week, AIS offers focused Dutch language lessons to help learners gain proficiency. AIS promotes multilingualism with library resources in English, Dutch and other home languages.
There are after-school clubs or activities (charged per event). After-school care runs from 14:35 to 18:30, Monday to Friday, through Partou. Partou reserves spots for AIS's international families and provides safe transportation to the De Kubus location. Preschool and additional childcare options are available nearby through Partou.
AIS is part of AnnoNu, one of the largest educational organisations for primary education in Amersfoort and the surrounding area. De Kubus is AIS's partner school and is also under AnnoNu. The library is shared with De Kubus, and a strong partnership with De Bibliotheek Eemland expands access to a wide and diverse collection of Dutch and English books, including titles in home languages.
AIS values that students take ownership for their own learning through inquiry. The school believes in a positive school culture that supports all students to reach their full potential. It also emphasizes sharing resources and expertise, and that learning goes beyond academic development.
AIS features a large natural playground that supports learning through play and exploration. The school hosts cultural celebrations such as Sinterklaas with partner De Kubus. After-school care is available via Partou from 14:35 to 18:30, Monday to Friday. The reimagined library supports reading and language development with books in English, Dutch and other languages.
Amersfoort International School (AIS) offers English-language international primary education for children aged 4 to 12 and follows the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme as an official IB World School since September 2025. Located in Amersfoort, AIS shares a light, spacious building on Noordewierweg with De Kubus and is part of the AnnoNu school board. The school opened in 2023–2024 and operates in a renovated facility that features a large natural playground to support learning through play, discovery and inquiry. AIS emphasizes inclusion and equal opportunities with a mission of 'Learning for all' and a transdisciplinary, inquiry-based PYP curriculum that integrates across traditional subjects. Facilities include a collaborative library developed with De Kubus and De Bibliotheek Eemland, offering Dutch and English titles and growing multilingual collections. After-school care via Partou, cycling lessons, and Dutch language immersion strengthen community ties and language development. AIS aims to empower internationally minded and successful learners.
