The school is a learning community based on inclusion and equal opportunity, welcoming students of all nationalities, faiths and cultures. The Primary Years Programme focuses on the development of the whole child as an inquirer, in school and in the world beyond, with well-being integrated into learning. The IB framework aims to nurture international-minded, caring learners who contribute to a better world. In 2025–2026 AIS will implement the social-emotional framework Zones of Regulation into daily practice to support students' social and emotional development.
AIS has a Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo). The school recognises that students come with varying needs and uses an equity-based inclusion approach. A four-level support structure begins with Quality Teaching in the classroom and can progress to targeted interventions (Level 2), an internal school Support Plan and IEP (Level 3), or school-wide/external resources (Level 4). The SENCo supports teachers as a coach and parents are informed. When needed, a Multidisciplinary Support Team may recommend external resources or placement in a special educational needs school.
The language of instruction is English. All students who do not have English as their home language participate in the full classroom experience and are immersed in English, with targeted support for students new to English. AIS has a Language Policy and supports multilingualism, encouraging the use of home languages while maintaining English as the primary medium of instruction.
The curriculum recognises the importance of balancing intellectual, physical and emotional well-being within the IB framework. Zones of Regulation will be implemented to support social-emotional development on a daily basis. Public health involvement (JGZ) provides a school nurse and a school doctor to monitor health and well-being, with preventive care and guidance for families; health checks occur at the school as part of overall well-being.
AIS maintains a Safe Learning Environment with JGZ involvement, including a school nurse and school doctor to support student health and well-being. JGZ provides preventive health care and guidance; parents can liaise with JGZ for health and well-being questions. The school operates a nut-free policy to protect students with severe allergies, has a formal safety and evacuation plan, and trained Emergency Response Officers on site to provide first aid and lead safety actions. Accident Injury Insurance is in place for accidents arising on the way to school or during school activities.
Amersfoort International School (AIS) offers English-language international primary education for children aged 4 to 12 and follows the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme as an official IB World School since September 2025. Located in Amersfoort, AIS shares a light, spacious building on Noordewierweg with De Kubus and is part of the AnnoNu school board. The school opened in 2023–2024 and operates in a renovated facility that features a large natural playground to support learning through play, discovery and inquiry. AIS emphasizes inclusion and equal opportunities with a mission of 'Learning for all' and a transdisciplinary, inquiry-based PYP curriculum that integrates across traditional subjects. Facilities include a collaborative library developed with De Kubus and De Bibliotheek Eemland, offering Dutch and English titles and growing multilingual collections. After-school care via Partou, cycling lessons, and Dutch language immersion strengthen community ties and language development. AIS aims to empower internationally minded and successful learners.
