Clubs, activities, and opportunities to explore interests and passions

Academic and Intellectual

All students participate in CAS (Creativity, Activity and Service) with a strong emphasis on service. The school offers over 100 external service opportunities in Maastricht, and many students take part in the Duke of Edinburgh's International Award, an outdoor and experiential programme. Student leadership is nurtured through platforms such as the Student Council, Model United Nations, and the Youth Social Entrepreneurship Programme. Throughout the year, events focus on International Peace, Sustainability, the Arts, Science and Gender Issues, complemented by guest speakers and debates through the Global Issues Forum.

Arts and Creative

Community Clubs include ballet, chess, sports, art, cooking and drama, providing growth, creativity and fun in a safe space. The UWC Maastricht Music School offers lessons in voice, guitar, flute, clarinet, drums, violin, viola, cello, classical and jazz piano and even music production; lessons are available to Primary and Secondary students, staff and parents on campus. Students share their talents during performances, events and workshops throughout the year. Music and arts activities supplement the Primary School Curriculum.

Cultural and Language

Culture Weeks celebrate the diverse cultures within the UWC Maastricht community. The co-curricular programme includes Model United Nations and the Youth Social Entrepreneurship Programme, supporting intercultural exchange and global awareness. Students engage in debates and guest speaker events through the Global Issues Forum, broadening cultural understanding. All MYP students complete Service as Action projects such as Youth Mayors or MUN, fostering civic engagement.

Social and Hobbies

Students engage in a wide range of after-school activities and Community Clubs such as ballet, chess, sports, art, cooking and drama. These clubs foster teamwork, personal interests and social connections beyond class time. Students often collaborate on performances, exhibitions and events that involve peers from different nationalities. The vibrant co-curricular scene supports well-rounded personal development.

Community and Service

Service opportunities are embedded in CAS with over 100 external service opportunities in Maastricht and beyond. Students participate in the Duke of Edinburgh's International Award, Eco School projects and various community initiatives. On-campus events focus on International Peace, Sustainability, The Arts, Science and Gender Issues, and students volunteer with local organizations such as Serve The City Maastricht and other community partners. These activities connect students with the local community and global issues.

Leadership and Professional

Student leadership is nurtured through platforms such as the Student Council, Model United Nations, the Youth Social Entrepreneurship Programme and Student Led Initiatives. Students have opportunities to develop professional skills through leadership roles, project weeks and guest speaker events. These experiences build initiative, teamwork and communication, preparing students for university and future careers. Leadership activities are integrated across the school to encourage collaboration.

Lifestyle and Wellbeing

200 Diploma Programme and Career Programme students aged 16 to around 18 live on campus in residence buildings. Residents live in small groups of four students sharing a bedroom, and meals are shared in the Mensa for breakfast and dinner. The UWC Maastricht experience extends beyond school hours with a variety of activities that foster community and personal growth. The school emphasizes wellbeing through pastoral support, clubs and a vibrant, inclusive community.

UWC Maastricht is an international day and residential school in the Netherlands that educates students aged 4 to 18 within the United World Colleges network. The school delivers the IB continuum: PYP, MYP, DP and the IB Career-related Programme, with English as the language of instruction. The Diploma Programme offers a wide choice of subjects across language and literature, language acquisition, individuals and societies, sciences, mathematics and the arts, supplemented by TOK, the Extended Essay and CAS. The campus comprises five buildings around a garden learning space, with primary and secondary facilities, three residence halls for DP students and a Mensa dining hall. Features include science laboratories, a library, a drama room, soundproof music rooms and an Atrium for performances. A strong emphasis on service, sustainability and leadership runs through CAS, Duke of Edinburgh's Award participation, Model United Nations, and student-led initiatives. The on-site Music School broadens arts participation year-round.
