Every term, students participate in inter-house quizzes, debates, and public-speaking competitions. This fosters healthy competition and helps identify and develop students who represent the school in external competitions. Debating and public speaking develop speaking and listening skills and build confidence in presenting ideas to an audience. Olashore has won several laurels in external speech and intellectual events.
Students learn a variety of arts and crafts not only in the classroom but also as members of Young Artists, Home Makers, and Photography clubs. There are annual exhibitions of students' work in home making and visual arts. Students are encouraged to participate in external competitions in these arts.
In conjunction with Academie Internationale de Langue Francaise (AILF), the school organises annual excursions to Benin, South Africa, Dubai, the United Kingdom and France. Educational trips are regularly organised to expose students to different cultures and historic places. Local and international trips include destinations such as Cross River State and other sites, enriching cultural exposure.
There are numerous student-led clubs such as JETS, Home Makers, Info-Tech, Photography, Entertainment, Young Artists, Chess, Boys Scout, Mathematics, Drama and Mountaineering. Clubs are run by students under staff supervision and contribute to diverse interests. Inter-house competitions include debate, public speaking, and quiz, along with various sports. Midterm carnivals and excursions are part of the social life of Olashore students.
The Community Service Programme is for all Year 10 students and aims to deepen their relationship with the Iloko community and demonstrate that leadership is about service. In 2017, students renovated the Town Hall as part of community engagement. Participation in community service instills a sense of responsibility and prepares students to be active global citizens, complemented by school-supported scholarships for Local Authority Primary School pupils.
Olashore provides leadership opportunities at all levels, from class captains and prefects to outward-facing roles supporting primary schools. A structured leadership development programme, designed by a USA consultant, is based on the Social Change Model of Leadership. Students can access world-class leadership training programs through selected external providers locally, nationally and internationally.
