When Shehu and Ruth Garba relocated from Lagos to Abuja in 1995, they opened Premier International School on September 7, 1997, starting with seven students and three teachers. The first preschool Community Helpers' Day took place in 1998. Once the Nursery and Primary School had been established, the Secondary School (also known as the College) opened its doors in 2007 in response to growing demand from parents who wanted continuity in the educational trajectory of their children. In the spring of 2016, the day care/creche also opened its doors to infants from six weeks to two years old. Since its founding in 1997, Premier has maintained three defining characteristics, a commitment to academic excellence, a strong culture of discipline and a focus on the holistic development of children through early exposure to athletics, arts and community service.
Premier International School engages students in the Duke of Edinburgh's International Award as a key component of its aim to create world-class citizens. The school also hosts leadership and student-life events such as Prefects' Investiture Ceremony, and annual activities like Funday and a Scavenger Hunt and Cook-off, reflecting an active and vibrant school culture. The News section documents milestones and cultural celebrations, illustrating a lively and engaged community.
Premier International School offers a Nigerian curriculum blended with the Cambridge (British) framework and elements of American curricula. A digital learning program provides personal laptops for students in Years 7–10. Bilingual education is available with classes in French, German and Mandarin, with DELF Prim and DELF Junior certifications. Founded in 1997, Premier emphasizes academic excellence, discipline and holistic development through athletics, arts and community service.
