English is the language of instruction. Mandarin and Spanish are taught as world languages starting in Grade 1. Non native English speakers have access to EAL support with levels Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced. In the Diploma Programme, some subjects may be studied in English, French or Spanish, and Mandarin is available as a language acquisition option.
The school uses English as the language of instruction for all core subjects. A formal bilingual teaching program is not described in CIS materials; English language support is provided through the EAL program. Mandarin or Spanish are offered as world languages starting in Grade 1, but are taught as separate language courses rather than bilingual instruction of all subjects.
There is no separate immersion stream described; immersion style work is part of EAL support across the curriculum. EAL uses partial immersion push in and stand alone pull out approaches to support English language development. Mandarin and Spanish are offered as world languages starting in Grade 1, but there is no distinct immersion program for these languages.
