Accreditations and Awards

Recognition and credentials that demonstrate quality and excellence

Accreditations

- Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) accreditation — held since 1996. WASC is a regional accreditation body that evaluates school quality and organizational effectiveness across multiple domains. CIS has maintained this accreditation continuously since 1996, underscoring long-standing external validation of its quality.
- Council of International Schools (CIS) membership and accreditation status — CIS membership since 1998, with international accreditation status attained and maintained since May 2008. CIS is an international accrediting organization that assesses a school against global standards and supports ongoing school improvement.
- International Baccalaureate (IB) authorizations (IB World School) — CIS has been authorized to offer all three IB programmes: Diploma Programme (DP) since October 1999, Primary Years Programme (PYP) in 2014, and Middle Years Programme (MYP) in 2021. This establishes CIS as an IB continuum school.
- IB verification and joint re-accreditation activity (2024) — CIS participated in a joint CIS/WASC accreditation visit in 2024, with IB verification in September 2024, and subsequent re-accreditation announced later in 2024. This confirms continued compliance with IB, CIS, and WASC expectations.
- Republic Act 9190 (government recognition) — in February 2003, CIS received Republic Act 9190 recognition as an educational institution international in character, the only school in the Visayas region with this status. This represents formal government recognition of its international character.
- CIS as the country's first IB continuum school — CIS is described as the first IB continuum school in the Philippines, offering all three IB programmes across its curriculum, which reflects its unique IB alignment in the country.

Awards and Recognition

- Common Sense School recognition — CIS has been recognized as a Common Sense School for digital citizenship education, reflecting the school's commitment to teaching students to think critically, use technology responsibly, and navigate the online world safely. The recognition was announced in May 2025, with communications describing what the designation means for CIS and its community.
