Parent Experience

Community, involvement and what it's like to be a parent at this school

History

Chiang Kai Shek College traces its origins to June 1939 when Chiang Kai Shek High School was founded in Manila by prominent Chinese-Filipino leaders and named after Generalissimo Chiang Kai-shek. It offered a six-year Chinese program and a four-year English program, and it reopened in December 1945 after World War II damage before moving to its present site in August 1948. The institution became CKSC College in 1965, expanding to two four-year college programs and by 1968 offering complete education from preschool to college. Presidential Decree 176 of 1973 integrated foreign schools into the Philippine system, and CKSC later established the Language Learning Center in 1990 and gained CHED approval to offer graduate programs (MBA and MA in Education) in 1997. CKSC is described as the first higher-education institution in the Philippines founded by overseas Filipino-Chinese.

Community

CKSC describes itself as a Filipino-Chinese private school delivering bilingual education in English, Filipino, and Chinese (Mandarin and Hokkien). The school fosters a sense of community through student life programs and cultural activities that connect students with the wider Filipino-Chinese community. In 2025 CKSC launched the Chinese Cultural Paradise Summer Program to promote Chinese heritage and language learning. CKSC also leads campus-level Chinese New Year celebrations and participates in public cultural events such as the Mid-Autumn Festival, and it hosts annual foundation anniversaries and school fairs that involve students, parents, and alumni.

Parent-Teacher Association

Public CKSC materials show that parent involvement is organized through school-led channels rather than a publicly listed PTA. Parents' Orientation (AY 2024-2025) is held to welcome and brief parents about school policies and programs. Online Parents' Orientation (AY 2025-2026) is conducted via Zoom with login details distributed to enrolled students' CKSC accounts. Enrollment communications include tuition-related programs such as the Big Family Discount and Grandparent Discount, which involve families during enrollment, and the Scholarships and Grants Office coordinates financial support for families. The CKSC Alumni Association also engages families through welfare initiatives and events such as Christmas parties, anniversaries, and outreach projects.
