Parent Experience

Community, involvement and what it's like to be a parent at this school

History

MIIS was established in 1996 by Dr. Mary Joy Canon Abaquin as Child's Place Preschool. It was the first educational institution in the Philippines to base its approach on Howard Gardner's theory of multiple intelligences. The school expanded to Lower and Middle School, and the Upper School was founded in 2007. MIIS is CIS-accredited and also holds dual accreditation with the Philippine Department of Education, described as the first CIS-accredited school in Quezon City. In 2024 MIIS announced a Parklinks campus in Pasig City, with groundbreaking held and a targeted opening in SY 2026-2027.

Community

MIIS operates across two campuses at the border of Quezon City and Pasig City: the Main Campus at Escaler Street in Loyola Heights and the Upper School campus on Katipunan Avenue. The school describes its mission as fostering the holistic development of students and their multiple intelligences to enable them to become 21st‑century leaders and global citizens. The MIIS community actively participates in international competitions and programs, including Harvard Model Congress Asia 2026 and the Harvard Crimson Global Quiz Bowl, with students attaining notable results and alumni pursuing degrees at universities such as the University of British Columbia. Family involvement is visible through school-wide events such as Moving Up Ceremonies 2025 and Literacy Day 2025.

Parent-Teacher Association

MIIS does not publish a separate PTA page on its site; parent engagement is organized through the Parent Knowledge Center, which serves as a hub for parent resources and school communications. The Center features posts about major events, including Moving Up Ceremonies 2025 and Literacy Day 2025, and highlights student achievements at international events such as HMCA 2026 and the Harvard Crimson Global Quiz Bowl. The Center also carries updates about Parklinks and the School of the Future campus, reflecting ongoing parent-related information as MIIS expands. In addition to events, the Center hosts alumni stories and university placement updates, illustrating ongoing parent involvement in the MIIS community.
