In 1907 the Society of the French School of Lisbon was created with the opening of a school on Rua da Emenda. In 1917 the establishment moved to Pátio do Tijolo in the Braancamp Palace near Largo do Rato, purchased that year by the Society of the French School of Lisbon. The last move to the current premises occurred on 17 November 1952. The Lycée Français Charles Lepierre is named after Professor Charles Lepierre (1867–1945), a chemist who arrived in Portugal in 1888 and contributed to microbiology teaching in Lisbon and Coimbra. Inaugurated in 1952, the lycée is today part of AEFE and is directly managed under the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In the 2022 school year the primary school moved into new premises. The lycée currently has about 2100 students from nursery through terminale.
The LFCL is an AEFE-governed school that serves about 2100 students from nursery to terminale. The school supports a vibrant community with ongoing news and media activities (Actualités du LFCL and WebTV/Radio), student-led initiatives (Nos élèves s'engagent) and active participation by students, parents, and alumni. The LFCL offers many community-backed groups and services, including the student association, associations of parents, the association of former students, the LFCL sports association, AES/Garderie/Études (after-school care and study support), the school meals service, the school health service, and channels for official notes and communications, as well as a seismograph and weather station for monitoring.
There are two parent associations: the GPE Lisboa and the FCPE. Parent associations listen, inform, and accompany families at the Lycée; their elected representatives at the start of the school year are actively involved in the life of the establishment by participating in the various commissions and bodies.
Lycée Français Charles Lepiérre Lisbonne (LFCL) is a French international school in Lisbon, affiliated with the AEFE network and serving around 2,100 students from nursery to terminale. The campus spans seven buildings and houses facilities including Marmothèque, BCDI and CDI libraries, IT spaces, cafeterias, and health and counselling services. The curriculum follows the French national program: from Seconde to Terminale on the general track, with the Première–Terminale BFI track adding CDM in Portuguese and ACL in English; the Portuguese International Section (SiP) begins in Seconde and provides a pathway into BFI. In Seconde, Portuguese runs 4h and History-Geography totals 4h (2h in French and 2h in Portuguese); English foundations continue. From Première, the BFI track preserves the core timetable and adds CDM and ACL. The school offers two on-site gyms, a dance room, and extensive after-school activities; orchestral and choral ensembles, theatre, and arts options enrich arts education. Student leadership and service are fostered through CVL, CVC, ACH, JRI, and eco-délégués.
