Wellbeing and Support

How students are nurtured, understood, and kept safe

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

Blyth Academy Qatar provides social and emotional learning (SEL) support through a dedicated Student Support team, including a Student Guidance Counsellor and a Social Worker. The Student Support page lists Fiza Sher Ali as the Guidance Counsellor and Saja Daraghmi as the Social Worker. Health and Wellbeing lessons and campaigns promoting kindness and inclusion are described in the Anti-Bullying Policy. The Anti-Bullying Policy states that students who experience bullying will receive counselling and follow-up support, and that wellbeing initiatives may include peer wellbeing roles such as Wellbeing Leaders. The Harassment and Violence Policy provides safeguarding procedures, including reporting to the Head of School, Lead, Guidance Counselor, or Social Worker, with confidential investigations when required.

Special Educational Needs (SEN)

The Inclusive Learning Policy describes Blyth Academy Qatar as an inclusive learning environment recognizing diverse learner needs and ensuring equitable access to learning opportunities. The policy frames this as inclusive education rather than indicating the school is a specialist SEN institution. Learning supports include differentiated instruction, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), and a range of accommodations delivered in classroom, small-group, or one-on-one settings. External professional assessments may be pursued to identify needs, with recommendations forming part of an Individualized Program Plan (IPP) or Accommodation Plan. The Learning Support Department collaborates with teachers, parents, and students to design and review accommodations or IPP, monitor progress, and maintain confidentiality, with annual policy review aligning with MOEHE and Alberta Education standards.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

Blyth Academy Qatar provides English as an Additional Language (EAL) support for students who need it. The FAQ confirms that the school offers EAL support and uses inclusive strategies to assist EAL learners, including differentiated instruction, small-group instruction, vocabulary building, and targeted language development. Support includes one-on-one assistance to help students access the curriculum and improve English proficiency. The school celebrates linguistic diversity and works with families to ensure that each learner feels supported and valued. All teachers are described as using inclusive strategies to help EAL students achieve confidence and academic success.

Mental Wellbeing

Mental wellbeing is supported by a dedicated Student Support team, comprising a Student Guidance Counsellor (Fiza Sher Ali) and a Social Worker (Saja Daraghmi). The Student Support page publicly lists these staff and roles. The Anti-Bullying Policy includes Health and Wellbeing lessons and campaigns that promote mental wellbeing and the role of Wellbeing Leaders. When students experience bullying, they receive counselling and follow-up support, with restorative approaches where appropriate. The Harassment and Violence Policy provides safeguarding procedures with reporting channels to the Head of School, Lead, Guidance Counselor, or Social Worker, and confidential investigations when needed.

Safeguarding

The Harassment and Violence Policy establishes zero tolerance toward violence, harassment, intimidation, or bullying, with defined categories of misconduct. Reporting channels include the Head of School, Lead, Guidance Counselor, or Social Worker, and reports are treated confidentially and investigated. Victim support includes counseling and academic accommodations, with restorative mediation and referrals to MOEHE or Aman Center as appropriate. The Safe Arrivals and Departures Policy covers attendance, supervision during arrival and dismissal, and designated procedures to ensure student safety. Medical Information confirms collaboration with the school nurse and Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) to maintain a safe and healthy environment, including nut-free policy and vaccination coordination.
