Parent Experience

Community, involvement and what it's like to be a parent at this school

History

Ideal Indian School was established in 1985 by 62 philanthropists from Doha's Indian expatriate community and is run on a no-loss and no-profit basis by its founding fathers. The school opened on 20 May 1985 in Najma near Canada Dry with 15 locally appointed teachers and 10 divisions, offering English, Maths, Hindi, Science, and a third language. It was formally inaugurated on 24 February 1986 by H. E. Sheikh Mohamed Bin Hamad Al Thani, then Minister of Education, and soon moved to a larger Mansoura campus to accommodate future growth. Over the late 1980s and early 1990s the campus expanded with a Girls Wing, additional language offerings, and CBSE affiliation, with enrollment rising accordingly. By 2000 the school had over 4,000 students from more than 30 nationalities, reflecting its rapid expansion and multicultural character.

Community

Ideal Indian School comprises four sections—Kindergarten, Junior Section, Boy's Section, and Girl's Section—each supported by a house system with four color houses: Blue, Green, Red, and Yellow. The student body is multicultural; by 2000 it included about 22 nationalities. The school runs a range of clubs, including Eco Kids Club, Gavel Club, Astronomy Club, English Literary Club, and Heritage & Cultural Club, and publishes IIS Times to connect the school with the community. Community events and cultural activities are part of school life, and events such as Mother's Day and Father's Day have been covered in local media.

Parent-Teacher Association

Ideal Indian School maintains a formal Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) with a dedicated management committee. The PTA is represented on the school site by a PTA Members page and a PTA-Management-Committee PDF, which together outline the structure and membership. These documents indicate an organized body that coordinates parent involvement and supports school initiatives through committee work. The school provides PTA contact details and location information, including Abu Hamour, Doha, and multiple contact channels for engagement. Through its committee and members, the PTA participates in school life alongside the clubs and student activities that connect families to the school community.
