DISR was founded in the mid-1970s and has grown into a German international school in Riyadh. The school traces a 50-year history, reflecting its establishment in the mid-1970s. It is housed in Al-Bustan Village in Riyadh and welcomes the community there. DISR is a German Auslandsschule, rooted in German values and traditions while serving a cosmopolitan community. The curriculum path runs from kindergarten through Sekundarstufe I and II, and since 2025 the school has offered the Mixed Language International Baccalaureate (GIB) in Sekundarstufe II.
DISR's ethos is framed by the guiding motto Demokratisch, Innovativ, Sensibel, Respektvoll, and the school presents itself as a community where parents, staff, and students collaborate to foster intercultural understanding and lifelong learning. The school provides a broad German-language after-school program (AGs) for kindergarten through secondary levels, with activities ranging from theatre to sport, and a supervised homework component; the program is conducted entirely in German. English, French, and Arabic are also part of the language offerings, supporting a multilingual, multicultural community. Parents are encouraged to engage as part of the school community, and there is a parent-facing group known as the DISR Fan Club that invites sign-ups to participate in school life. The DISR calendar and events include occasional family-oriented activities such as a Deutsch-Französischer Tag (German-French Day) and other cultural celebrations.
DISR does not publish a formal Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) page on its public site. Parent involvement is organized through the DISR Fan Club, a parent-community group that invites members to sign up and provides a contact email and address for coordination (info@disr.edu.sa; Al Arid, Riyadh). The school notes in its materials that it values partnership with parents as part of its mission and culture. After-school activities are coordinated by AG coordinators and carry a fee, with details shared with families. In addition to formal programs, families participate in cultural and national celebrations that involve the school community and reinforce a sense of shared school life.
