Wellbeing and Support

How students are nurtured, understood, and kept safe

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

ACS (International) Singapore emphasizes Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) by integrating structured support systems into student life. The House system provides personalized guidance through assigned House Tutors, who monitor students’ academic and personal development. School Counsellors offer confidential support for emotional, social, and mental well-being, collaborating with external professionals when needed. The Learning Support Coordinator assists students with diverse learning needs, ensuring both academic and social-emotional growth. Additionally, the Chaplaincy Team fosters character development through Chapel services that promote values such as respect, service, and empathy.

Special Educational Needs (SEN)

ACS (International) Singapore provides support for students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) on a case-by-case basis, ensuring that each student's needs align with the school's resources and expertise. The Learning Support Coordinator works closely with teachers, parents, and students to develop tailored interventions and assist students with diverse learning needs. Support may include educational assessments, individualized strategies, and in-class accommodations to promote academic success and personal growth. School Counsellors provide additional emotional and social support, collaborating with external specialists when necessary. As part of the admissions process, the school carefully evaluates whether it can meet the specific needs of each applicant and encourages families to discuss their child’s requirements before enrollment.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

ACS (International) Singapore provides English as an Additional Language (EAL) support to help students develop the proficiency required for academic success. Admissions assessments determine whether applicants need EAL support. Students who require additional support may be placed in Bridging Programmes at Years 1, 2, and 4 to strengthen their language skills before transitioning into mainstream classes. In Years 3 and 4, students are assigned to appropriate English courses based on their proficiency, with differentiated pathways for English as a First or Second Language.

Mental Wellbeing

ACS (International) Singapore prioritizes student mental well-being through a structured pastoral care system and dedicated support services. The Pastoral Support Team (PST), including school counsellors and the Learning Support Coordinator, provides individualized guidance and intervention. Confidential counselling services are available, with counsellors collaborating with external professionals when necessary. International students receive additional support through a dedicated Pastoral Care Coordinator, ensuring their well-being while studying away from home. The school also promotes well-being through initiatives such as Well-being Week, focusing on mental, social, physical, and spiritual health. Additionally, Chapel services and the Chaplaincy Team provide spiritual and moral support, fostering a strong sense of community.

Safeguarding

All staff, volunteers, and third-party vendors at ACS (International) undergo rigorous background checks and regular training in safeguarding and child protection. A dedicated safeguarding team, including Child Protection Officers, oversees all child protection matters, ensuring a consistent and proactive approach. The school enforces a comprehensive Code of Conduct to regulate appropriate interactions between staff and students. Strict reporting procedures are in place to address safeguarding concerns effectively, with clear protocols for identifying, responding to, and managing potential risks.
