Language Provision

Language learning opportunities and multilingual education

Language Provision

English is the language of instruction across the IB programs. Korean and Chinese are taught as language options within the IB curriculum (Korean A LAL; Korean B; Chinese B; Chinese A Literature), with Spanish Ab Initio also available. Non-native English speakers receive language support, and admissions note that support is available in English, Chinese, and Korean to assist international applicants. Korean language and history are explicitly integrated into the curriculum, alongside other subject areas, across the full IB continuum.

Bilingual Teaching

Branksome Hall Asia offers the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme with a pathway for a bilingual diploma. The DP includes languages such as Korean (Korean A Language and Literature; Korean B) and Chinese (Chinese B; Chinese A Literature), with Spanish Ab Initio also offered as an additional language option. The language of instruction for IB courses is English, and the Diploma Programme is available in the final two years of the IB continuum (Grades 11–12). The school reports a high rate of bilingual diploma attainment among recent DP graduates (e.g., a large share earned the bilingual diploma).

Immersion Programs

Branksome Hall Asia runs the Branksome Hall Exchange (BHX) program, which links Grade 9 students in Jeju with peers at Branksome Hall in Toronto. Each October, BHX participants travel to Toronto for three weeks of outdoor experiences, cultural exchange, and intensive collaboration with Canadian classmates; in the spring, Toronto students visit Jeju for a reciprocal immersive experience. Additional immersion experiences include Malaysia Camp for Grade 8, focusing on outdoor leadership and cross-cultural learning. The curriculum also includes structured opportunities to study the Korean language, history, and culture in depth as part of its Korean-language offerings.
