Wellbeing and Support

How students are nurtured, understood, and kept safe

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

ASM provides social-emotional learning through the Learning Support Team, which ensures educational equity and continuity across the divisions. The team supports, guides, and teaches students to reach their full potential with services for different learning needs. Learning Support programs emphasize growth mindset and resilience. Staff collaborate with students, parents, teachers, counselors, and administrators to support student growth across the K-12 spectrum. English Language Acquisition, Reading, Writing, Math, and Executive Function Skills are included among the services for students who require additional support. Admission decisions for Middle and Upper School consider whether ASM can meet the student's social-emotional and academic support needs, and documentation such as an IEP or 504 plan may be requested.

Special Educational Needs (SEN)

ASM provides Learning Support for students with different learning needs across the K-12 divisions. The program focuses on educational equity and continuity and includes support for English Language Acquisition, Reading, Writing, Math, and Executive Function Skills. Students who require substantial academic and/or social-emotional support and program modification are not accepted into Grades 6-12; admissions reviews determine whether ASM can provide the necessary level of support. Documentation such as Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), educational evaluation reports, 504 plans, and medical or psychological reports may be requested during the admissions process. ASM collaborates with families, teachers, and counselors to determine appropriate supports.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

English Language Acquisition (EAL) is provided within ASM's Learning Support framework for students who need language development support. EAL services are integrated across Lower, Middle, and Upper School as part of the school's approach to inclusive education. The Learning Support team offers EAL alongside Reading, Writing, Math, and Executive Function support to help students access the curriculum. The admissions process and ongoing assessments consider language needs to determine appropriate placement and supports. This reflects ASM's multilingual and inclusive approach.

Mental Wellbeing

Well-being is valued and supported for every student. The aim is to cultivate a growth mindset and to support cognitive, social, emotional, and physical well-being as part of a holistic education. Mindfulness, empathy, and self-reflection are encouraged as skills to help students connect with themselves and others. The Health Services page highlights Well Being and Mental Health as central to student success and provides programs to promote happiness and resilience. The school integrates mental health provisions into daily life and student support.

Safeguarding

ASM maintains strong child protection policies and procedures to maintain a safe and secure environment for all students. The school emphasizes safeguarding as part of international best practice. A Whistleblowing Channel is available for reporting concerns. Safeguarding efforts focus on positive relationships and safe school life to protect students.
