Parent Experience

Community, involvement and what it's like to be a parent at this school

History

Anne Sullivan International School began as Babiweb, a Fontpineda nursery opened 17 years ago to provide a space for learning and stimulation in the earliest developmental stages. Babiweb was the seed, starting a project to offer quality education in the crucial 0–3 year stage. The founder pursued early-stimulation training from Col·legi Montserrat in Barcelona, with Dr. Núria Sánchez and Mare Montserrat del Pozo guiding the training. The school's philosophy was shaped by thinkers such as Loris Malaguzzi, Piaget, Pestalozzi, Montessori and others, forming the foundation of its approach to learning and development. From these roots, ASISB emerged as the project began to take shape and mature into a full school.

Community

The community at ASISB is built around a commitment that unites families and the school in a common goal of quality education. The Carta de Compromís states that families and the school form a single educational community with a shared aim. The school calendar organizes events and holidays and sets schedules for after-school activities. The uniform and materials policy fosters each student's identity while promoting belonging to the community. The school also emphasizes healthy and respectful meals as part of the educational experience.

Parent-Teacher Association

AMPA, the Associació de Mares i Pares d'Alumnes, promotes parent participation beyond the School Council. The AMPA is led by a president and a general coordinator, with a governing board and regular meetings coordinating with the school leadership. Parents form vocalies (committees) for areas such as alimentation, transports, summer activities, international, sports, maintenance and finance, each with a spokesperson. The AMPA holds periodic meetings with the school leadership to plan activities and address issues; monthly meetings and delegates are part of its governance. The AMPA organizes festivals and meetings, mediates conflicts, and supports school improvement in collaboration with teaching staff. The AMPA operates under its statutes, with delegates and vocalies serving as representatives for each grade.
