Wellbeing and Support

How students are nurtured, understood, and kept safe

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

Brewster Madrid provides a full-time School Counselor on campus to support students' mental and emotional health. Wellbeing counseling offers a safe, welcoming space to discuss stress, friendships, or personal issues, using a solution-focused approach. The program helps students develop resilience, emotional intelligence, and social skills to thrive in and out of the classroom. Each student is paired with an advisor who serves as mentor, coach, and parent liaison, meeting regularly with teachers to monitor progress and support goals. The advisor-student relationship is central to Brewster Madrid's learning experience, with regular advisory meetings built on trust and collaboration. The school also partners with families and, when needed, external professionals to tailor support while respecting student privacy.

Special Educational Needs (SEN)

Academic Support is part of the Brewster Madrid learning model. An Academic Support lead is identified among the school's In Focus team. The Brewster Model uses team-based, collaborative teaching and learning with instructional support designed to meet diverse needs. The framework emphasizes meeting each student where they are, through focused instructional support and an expanding range of course offerings. The approach aims to ensure every student is known, supported, and able to access learning opportunities that fit their strengths and goals.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

English is the primary language of instruction. Students benefit from immersion in English while living in Spain, in a multilingual and culturally diverse city. The school offers the American High School Diploma with AP courses and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, providing pathways to universities worldwide. The two Madrid campuses host students from 45+ countries, reinforcing an international language and cultural environment. This English-language emphasis supports mobility and global opportunities for graduates.

Mental Wellbeing

Wellbeing is a core focus at Brewster Madrid, with a full-time School Counselor on campus to support mental and emotional health. Wellbeing counseling provides a safe, welcoming space for discussing challenges—from stress to friendships to personal issues—and uses a solution-focused approach. The program supports emotional intelligence and social skills while helping students build resilience for ongoing growth. Every student works with an advisor who is a mentor, coach, and family liaison, with advisors meeting regularly with teachers to monitor progress and goals. The advisory system fosters trust, belonging, and a personalized approach to wellbeing, with families and external professionals engaged when needed while respecting privacy.
