The European School of Alicante was established by the Board of Governors of the European Schools in November 2000, within the framework of the Statute of the European Schools. It is the only establishment in Spain delivering this type of education and serves the children of EU institutions; pupils obtain the European Baccalaureate.
The European School of Alicante provides education from Early Years through Secondary, culminating in the European Baccalaureate. A distinctive feature is its language section system, where students enroll in the English, Spanish, French, or German sections, taking core subjects in that specific language. For students whose mother tongue differs, the school provides the SWALS (Students Without A Language Section) program to maintain their native language proficiency. In Secondary year 6, students participate in a mandatory "Work Experience" program, spending two weeks in a professional internship environment to develop practical skills and inform future career choices. The campus includes specific facilities for art, music, ICT, alongside biology, chemistry, and physics laboratories. Extracurricular activities are managed by specialized organizations, Mundosport and Auca, providing sports and creative options. Situated in Alicante, the school emphasizes multilingualism, serving children of European institution staff alongside other local and international families.
