The school began in 1989. It teaches in a bilingual setting and provides a secure social and emotional environment for students. It is a proud member of the IB World community. Colegio Europeo de Madrid is part of the Cognita family of schools.
Open Days & Visits are offered for prospective families. The school provides a wide range of extracurricular activities, including ballet and judo, during the school day and after class. The school is recognised as an Active Environmental Learning Center and has received a School Reforestation Award from the Las Rozas City Council. It participates in events with sister Cognita schools, such as debates and other activities.
European School of Madrid (Colegio Europeo de Madrid) is a private school and IB World School in Cognita. It serves ages 0–18 across Infants, Primary, Secondary and Bachillerato, offering a continuum of international education. The school provides IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) with Pre-PYP for ages 3–11, and IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) for ages 11–16; from September 2027, it will offer National Baccalaureate and the IB Diploma Programme, completing the continuum. The setting is bilingual, coeducational, supporting language development in English and Spanish, with campuses: Infants' building with open-air classrooms, a sensory space and a library; and Main Building housing Primary and Secondary areas, including IB-aligned Primary classrooms, a library, a Science Laboratory, and a technology hub called European Valley. Facilities include an Outdoor Bachillerato Terrace, an outdoor athletics track, two multipurpose courts, a gym, and dedicated spaces for art and judo. Ballet and other after-school clubs complete programme.
