Emotional and social development is a central part of education at King's College Soto de Viñuelas. A dedicated staff guides pupils to explore their emotional, social, and academic strengths through a strong pastoral framework. Regular, open communication between teachers and families supports wellbeing and achievement. Core values underpin daily life, encouraging initiative, tolerance, open-mindedness, honesty, kindness, integrity, and independence. Graduates are prepared to be well-rounded, global citizens who contribute to their communities. The school maintains a Pupil Voice & Wellbeing Team to involve students in wellbeing initiatives.
English is the language of instruction with full English language immersion from Baby Education and Day Care to Year 13 to support native-level fluency. Spanish is taught across all year groups. French and German are offered from Year 5 onward, with Chinese available as an optional language for senior students. Pupils speak English and Spanish in the playground, supporting bilingual development. An Induction English course provides intensive English classes in small groups with additional support in mainstream lessons for non-English-speaking students admitted by ability; entry for pupils with little English is possible, with EAL tuition offered at an additional cost when required.
Mental wellbeing is supported through a values-based, student-centred approach and pastoral systems. Staff monitor emotional, social, and academic development and work with families to support wellbeing. A Pupil Voice & Wellbeing Team contributes to wellbeing initiatives and student input. The core values promote resilience and responsible citizenship as part of the school ethos, helping pupils grow as well-rounded individuals.
Safeguarding and child protection apply to all pupils and staff, including when pupils are educated off-site or on visits. The policy sets out roles and responsibilities, including a Designated Safeguarding Lead and safeguarding governor, with clear procedures for reporting concerns and recording them in the My Concern system. Staff receive training to identify welfare concerns and respond appropriately, with safeguarding processes that may involve local social services or the police when necessary. Parents are informed unless there is a risk to the child, and the school may engage external agencies as appropriate. The policy is reviewed annually (with the next review date indicated) and includes online safety and guidance for responding to online harm.
