How students are nurtured, understood, and kept safe

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

PSHE is delivered by tutors in Secondary and by class teachers in Primary to develop communication, mental resilience and independence. The tutors and class teachers form part of the Pastoral System and work with the SEN Team and School Counsellor to support students' emotional and social development and wellbeing. All staff contribute to creating a secure, happy and confident school environment.

Special Educational Needs (SEN)

The school has a Special Educational Needs (SEN) Department with a SENCO and SEN Team. The SEN Team works with tutors and the School Counsellor to support students in their studies and with challenges they may face in or out of school, helping with mental health and wellbeing.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

The school has a multilingual educational programme that offers full immersion in English from day one.

Mental Wellbeing

The SEN Team and School Counsellor support students' mental health and wellbeing. PSHE and the pastoral system help students develop emotional resilience.

Safeguarding

All staff are regularly trained in safeguarding and the school has clear policies to ensure the school is a safe and secure place. The Safeguarding Team is led by the Designated Safeguarding Lead and includes Primary and Secondary Safeguarding Coordinators.

OCastro British International School in Vigo, Galicia, is a private, secular international school for ages 3–18.
