Parent Experience

Community, involvement and what it's like to be a parent at this school

History

Oakley College was founded in 1989 when Donat and Mary Morgan opened a nursery with 32 children aged 3 and 4. The school grew in a family-like, child-centred environment and later moved to a converted chalet in Los Hoyos as it expanded. In September 2005 the school moved to the Zuloaga site in Tafira Alta, with an A-level block added in 2011. February 2019 saw the opening of Oakley Park with extensive outdoor facilities and a new primary building for ages 2-9 opened in January 2021. The school reinvests 100% of income into development, and the values of Respect, Responsibility and Resolving Problems remain central to the learning and the family atmosphere.

Community

Oakley College hosts weekly assemblies where pupils share what they have learnt with students and parents. The school runs theatrical productions in both Primary and Secondary, and marks major celebrations such as Halloween, Christmas, Canary Day and Carnival, culminating in graduation ceremonies for each stage. Throughout the year, Term 1 events include Black History Month, Hello Yellow Mental Health Day, Poetry Day, Remembrance Day, and International Day; Term 2 features Spanish Peace Day, Safer Internet Day, World Book Day and Carnival; Term 3 includes Earth Day, World Oceans Day and Race Against Hunger. These activities involve the whole school community—students, staff and parents—across departments.
