Admissions

How to apply, waitlist information, and financial support

Admissions Process

Open House visits: To receive more information about the school, sign up for Open House visits online or on-site. Meetings are usually conducted in English. We will be happy to welcome you and your family and show you around the school.

Enrollment and admission priorities: The school maintains open enrollment and accepts new students throughout the year. In courses with a waiting list, siblings of students already admitted and children of Nordic origin will be given preference for admission. The school also strives to form groups with balanced numbers of boys and girls, ages and language abilities.

Application for a place: Fill in and return the registration form (scanned by e-mail) together with the rest of the required documents. Pay the registration fee (see fees in the menu on the left). It is important to put the name of the student in the concept of the payment. Once the school has received the registration form and the payment of the registration fee, the student will be placed on the waiting list. If the application is for Year 1 and upwards (from 5 years old), we may invite the student to take a placement test.

Placement timeline: During the month of February we will confirm places for the following academic year for families whose children already attend the Scandinavian School and from March onwards we will be able to start offering the available places in the order of the waiting list.

Waiting list communication: By approximately mid-March we will have contacted the families on the waiting list, either to offer you a place for your child or to inform you that we have no places available.

Securing a place: In order to secure the place that has been offered to you, you must pay the registration fee and deposit.

If no places are available: If there are no places available, you will have to decide whether to keep your child on the waiting list or remove him/her from the list.

Year-round admissions: We admit students during the school year if there are places available.

Waitlist

Waitlist overview: The school maintains a waiting list for applicants when capacity is reached. In courses with a waiting list, siblings of students already admitted and children of Nordic origin are given admission preference. Places for the following academic year are confirmed in February for families already enrolled, and from March onward, available places are offered in the order of the waiting list. By mid-March, families on the waiting list are contacted regarding available places or the lack thereof. Places are secured by paying the registration fee and deposit. The school admits students during the school year if places are available.

Scandinavian School of Madrid is a Swedish international day school serving children from 18 months to 18 years. The school operates two sections: a Swedish section where instruction is in Swedish and an International section where instruction is in English. The International section follows the Cambridge curriculum, with preschool through secondary education and a Sixth Form offering Cambridge A-Levels. Cambridge Checkpoints are taken at the end of Year 6 and IGCSE at the end of Year 11. Founded in 1944, the school is a non-profit association of parents and a 400-student community with high teacher density. Music is a feature since 2011, with lessons and concerts that foster community. A courtyard supports activities, and the day allows after-school clubs. The school is accredited by NEASC, a member of CIS, NABSS accredited, and Cambridge Assessment International Education authorized, with Spanish Ministry of Education approval. KiVa and My Happy Mind support student wellbeing.
