A group of renowned people from Camp de Tarragona and southern Catalonia discussed how culture and knowledge were progressing and identified the need for an innovative international school. Socrates Educa International School was launched as a civic initiative, a non-profit project that established the Socrates Educa Foundation in 2007 to oversee founding and governance. The building's first stone was laid in 2011, and the school opened its doors on 17 September 2012. The Socrates Educa® International School model has proved to be a success, with very good results obtained over the years.
The school acts as a pedagogical and social benchmark for the Socrates Educa® International School community and for society in general. It holds many events for its community that are open to the region, students, families, as well as teachers from other schools. The school runs annual pedagogical workshops to foster debate and the exchange of good educational ideas and practices with lecturers and teachers from around the world, and every two years it awards the Josep M. Bach International Education Award for projects with international social and educational impact; prize winners have included Teach for All. The university fair and orientation week provide talks and experiences to help students with admissions and career planning, with alumni sharing insights from university and professional life. Patronage Night is an annual event to present social and educational initiatives, thank donors, and celebrate scholarships and awards.
Parent school engages families as lifelong learning partners from the first inquiry through the child's years at Socrates Educa® International School. Families have opportunities and mechanisms to communicate with the school and its community, including staff and other families. During initial monitoring and daily life at school, families are invited to presentation meetings and have tutor meetings one-to-one. The support is extended to other areas throughout the school year. Various events are organized, including ICT talks, nutrition talks, talks by the school's Special Needs Support Department, academic guidance talks for ESO and BAT/IB, talks to support younger students, direct access to teaching staff, termly reviews and tutorials, and pedagogical days.
