Parent Experience

Community, involvement and what it's like to be a parent at this school

History

Founded in 1903 by the Congregation of the Sisters of St.-Joseph, the Institut International de Lancy was originally the Collège Marie-Thérèse, a Catholic boarding school for girls. The school has since evolved into one of Switzerland's oldest private international schools and now operates as a non-profit association offering an international education with a contemporary approach to academic achievement and personal development. The institution has grown to welcome nursery through secondary students and, in 2023, celebrated its 120th anniversary. In 2025, IIL opened its fourth building, reflecting ongoing expansion.

Community

IIL is a multicultural, diverse and international community where children can flourish, learn and develop intellectual curiosity. Students are inspired by motivational teachers and staff and united around the core values of the founders, the Sisters of St Joseph of Lyon. The school is recognised for its academic excellence and guides learners to become independent, autonomous, and collaborative, while fostering communication, creativity and critical thinking. Around 1,500 students from diverse nationalities form the school community.

Parent-Teacher Association

The parents' association is open to all IIL families. As parent volunteers, we promote ties between IIL families through welcome coffees, galette des rois, Christmas market, workshops and conferences, and operate a parent liaison network in the primary school. We foster belonging by organising cohesion parties between sections by age group, such as bowling evenings, cruise outings, spooky and jungle parties, and the school fair. We run charitable events including school uniform sales and exchanges and events where profits are donated to charitable associations. APEIIL does not hold a position in IIL's management; its committee is composed of parent volunteers and its budget operates independently from IIL.
