Parent Experience

Community, involvement and what it's like to be a parent at this school

History

MYIS International School began in February 1990 as a small early‑learning centre operating out of the director’s home in Sukhumvit Soi 42, Bangkok, serving just four children. By 1992 enrollment rose to 16 students. The school expanded to a second campus at Chaengwattana in 1994, then moved to a purpose-built campus in Muang Thong Thani in 2006. In 2017 it relocated to its current Samakee facility in Nonthaburi, becoming the first IB World School in that province and beginning its Middle Years expansion in 2022.

Community

MYIS describes itself as a warm community where students, families, and staff collaborate. Parents regularly participate in school events, assemblies, and classroom activities such as sharing recipes, cultural traditions, or stories. The emphasis is on collaboration, mutual respect, and celebrating cultural diversity through shared learning experiences.

Parent-Teacher Association

MYIS runs a Parent Working Group (PWG) which serves as a platform for parents to collaborate with school leadership, teachers, and even kitchen staff to improve the school experience. Parents volunteer in class as Room Moms or Dads, help organize events, coordinate classroom support, and contribute to fundraising or yearbook production. PWG also hosts parent workshops and helps facilitate open communication between families and school staff.

Magic Years International School (MYIS), founded in 1990, is located in Nonthaburi near Bangkok. It offers the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) and Middle Years Programme (MYP) for students aged 1 to 16, with plans to add the Diploma Programme by 2027. The school keeps class sizes small and focuses on inquiry-based learning across subjects. The campus includes indoor-outdoor classrooms, a saltwater pool, gym, STEM and art labs, a music room, and a small farm with animals and gardens. Students also take part in Thai language, music, and a range of after-school clubs such as cooking, soccer, and yoga.
