MYIS includes SEL lessons led by a school counselor in Primary classrooms. For example, Grade 2 students explore concepts like empathy, the power of words (e.g., using a toothpaste experiment), and community-building through reflection.
MYIS states that it may accept children with special educational needs on a case-by-case basis. However, the school does not have an in-house SEN department or specialist therapists. Instead, families are expected to engage external specialists (such as speech or occupational therapists) themselves if their child requires regular intervention.
The school mentions that while it supports inclusion in the classroom, it does not provide therapy or specialized instruction for students with moderate to high needs on campus. Decisions regarding admission are made after reviewing individual assessments and needs.
MYIS does provide English as an Additional Language support. Students who are not yet proficient in English are assessed during the admissions process, and if needed, EAL instruction is provided to help them participate in the mainstream classroom.
MYIS has established a Child Safeguarding Committee which oversees risk assessments, hazard reporting, maintenance checks, and improvements to safety standards across the school campus. This internal team works alongside external auditors to regularly test equipment, electrical systems, and general site safety, ensuring a proactive approach to minimizing risks.
The school also employs a full-time certified school nurse who manages student health throughout the day, monitoring for illness, administering first aid, and promoting hygienic practices like handwashing and coughing protocols. Staff members receive annual training in first aid, CPR, and emergency response, enabling them to assist students promptly if accidents occur.
Magic Years International School (MYIS), founded in 1990, is located in Nonthaburi near Bangkok. It offers the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) and Middle Years Programme (MYP) for students aged 1 to 16, with plans to add the Diploma Programme by 2027. The school keeps class sizes small and focuses on inquiry-based learning across subjects. The campus includes indoor-outdoor classrooms, a saltwater pool, gym, STEM and art labs, a music room, and a small farm with animals and gardens. Students also take part in Thai language, music, and a range of after-school clubs such as cooking, soccer, and yoga.
