Wellbeing and Support

How students are nurtured, understood, and kept safe

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

The school incorporates Social and Emotional Learning through its PSHE (Personal, Social, and Health Education) curriculum, which is delivered weekly in secondary and upper primary classes. SEL is further supported by mindfulness lessons included in the weekly schedule across Early Years and Primary. The school also promotes a strong sense of identity and community, aiming to foster responsible and respectful behaviour. Mindfulness is treated as a standalone subject and is integrated into various stages of the curriculum.

Special Educational Needs (SEN)

Norwich International School offers a Special Educational Needs (SEN) programme designed to support students with additional learning needs. Support is delivered through Individual Education Plans (IEPs) tailored to each student’s specific requirements. The SEN provision is coordinated with homeroom and specialist teachers to ensure curriculum access or adapted learning pathways. The school does not identify itself as a specialist SEN institution, and it does not publicly list the specific types of SEN it is equipped to support.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

The school provides structured English Language Support (ELS) for students whose first language is not English. From Year 1 onwards, the ELS team supports students in English classes and offers up to three additional English sessions per week if needed. The school also offers English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction to develop both academic and everyday English proficiency.

Mental Wellbeing

Mental wellbeing is addressed through a combination of structured PSHE lessons and regular mindfulness classes across various school levels. In Secondary, students have access to a university and careers counsellor who also supports general wellbeing. There is no mention of a dedicated mental health counsellor or clinical psychologist on staff.

Safeguarding

The school outlines basic safeguarding measures, including a 24/7 security team, mandatory ID cards for all staff and visitors, and CCTV coverage across campus. All teaching staff must pass a criminal background check, and student behaviour policies are formalised through a signed Student Code of Conduct at the start of each academic year. However, the school does not publicly share a full safeguarding or child protection policy document on its website.
