The Groupe Scolaire International Les Nouvelles Générations is located in Bousmayel Ajim on the island of Djerba and is the first large international school in southern Tunisia. The educational project was initiated in 2016 by a Tunisian diaspora seeking to improve the quality of education in their homeland, and the school opened in September 2018. It is authorized by the Tunisian Ministry of Education for Primary, Middle (Collège), and Diploma (Lycée) levels and is an IB World School offering the Primary Years Programme, Middle Years Programme, and Diploma Programme. The campus sits on a 35-hectare site with olive groves and palm trees and includes administration, an independent early years section, a primary block, a middle school block with a central courtyard, a separate high school block, specialized laboratories, a documentation center, a large dining hall, a sports complex, and a 120-bed boarding facility. An approximately 100-strong staff ensures daily operations and ongoing professional development, and the school is a member of SEBIQ and RIMF and is affiliated with the Chamber of Private Schools in Tunisia.
The school hosts a diverse community with representatives from around 20 nationalities, and languages spoken by students and staff include Arabic, Berber, French, English, German, Italian, Spanish, Dutch, Swedish, Finnish, and Turkish. Instruction is conducted in French, with German, English, Arabic, and Spanish offered as additional languages. The campus features a modern Documentation and Information Center and a comprehensive sports complex within a safe, inquiry-based learning environment that emphasizes personalized support. Families participate in clubs, student-led projects, and cultural activities, and parents are engaged through the NG in Action Committee, which organizes events, supports extracurricular activities, and participates in professional forums.
Parents play a fundamental role in the community and are actively integrated into school life as partners in education. They are regularly informed about the school's mission and the IB program and are introduced to the system's specifics throughout their child's journey. They are encouraged to participate through the NG in Action Committee, which organizes events, supports extracurricular activities, and takes part in professional forums. The NG in Action Committee provides opportunities for parental involvement in governance forums and school events, and it works in concert with the school leadership to promote student development and community cohesion. The school's approach to parent engagement is designed to foster collaboration between families, teachers, and students to support a safe, enriching learning environment.
