Wellbeing and Support

How students are nurtured, understood, and kept safe

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

The school fosters social and emotional development through a multicultural environment, intercultural communication activities, and club programs that support social interaction. It aims to raise global citizens who are self-confident, intuitive, and able to express their feelings, ideas, opinions and thoughts sensitively and respectfully. Club activities and student leadership opportunities further develop social, cognitive, and emotional skills.

Special Educational Needs (SEN)

The school follows an inclusion framework to support learners with diverse needs across both Turkish national and international curricula. A dedicated school inclusion team, including school counsellors and teachers, identifies barriers and puts in place structures to support all students. When a student experiences difficulties, teachers discuss with the school counsellor; guardians are informed as appropriate, and an individualized program may be created with guidance from the RAM (Guidance and Research Center). The policy is reviewed annually.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

The primary languages of instruction are English and Turkish, with German, French, and Spanish offered as additional languages. All teachers act as language teachers and support language learning across the curriculum. Each student has a language portfolio to track progress, and language learning is facilitated through regular library activities, reading and writing tasks, and opportunities to practice languages in diverse contexts.

Mental Wellbeing

The school prioritizes wellbeing alongside academic and social development, with language support and clubs contributing to emotional growth. The High School program includes a psychological counselling unit to support student wellbeing and university planning; The Duke of Edinburgh's Award program promotes self-management, perseverance, teamwork, leadership, and physical wellbeing.

Safeguarding

The Inclusion Policy emphasizes safeguarding and a safe, inclusive learning environment, with confidentiality of student information and processes for early identification of needs. If a student faces a challenge, it is identified by teachers and discussed with the school counsellor; guardians are informed if needed and an individualized plan may be implemented with RAM involvement. The policy includes ongoing reviews and steps to remove barriers, and addresses accessibility and open dialogue with families.
