Wellbeing and Support

How students are nurtured, understood, and kept safe

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

Ash Mount School embeds social and emotional learning (SEL) through a five-domain wellbeing framework: Emotional Resilience, Physical Health, Social Connection, Academic Balance, and Personal Growth. These domains are integrated across the curriculum, pastoral care, the House system, service projects, and community partnerships. Wellbeing is treated as a commitment that underpins day-to-day practice, not a stand-alone programme. The school emphasises collaboration with families and proactive identification of concerns to support every learner. Staff have safeguarding training and a Designated Safeguarding Lead supports the wellbeing and safety of students.

Special Educational Needs (SEN)

Ash Mount School describes an inclusive-first approach with Personalised Academic Support, Pathways for Every Learner (including English as an Additional Language support and extended opportunities for gifted and talented students), and Wellbeing and Growth with collaborative communication through IEPs. An inclusive model uses targeted support and regular family involvement to help students academically, socially, and emotionally. The school states EAL and GT pathways, and asserts that pupils are known, noticed, and nurtured. It does not publish a list of specific SEN categories or describe itself as a specialist SEN institution. However, the inclusion framework emphasizes collaboration with families through IEPs and regular updates.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

English as an Additional Language (EAL) support is included under Pathways for Every Learner within Inclusion & Support. The school provides tailored EAL pathways alongside other personalised routes, including gifted and talented opportunities. Progress is communicated through regular updates and collaborative Individual Education Plans (IEPs) with families. EAL support is presented as part of the inclusive framework to enable access to the full curriculum. From Early Years to senior levels, EAL is available as part of inclusive practice.

Mental Wellbeing

Wellbeing is central to Ash Mount's ethos and is described as a commitment rather than a programme. The wellbeing framework comprises five interconnected domains: Emotional Resilience, Physical Health, Social Connection, Academic Balance, and Personal Growth, embedded across the curriculum and school life. The model is integrated across curriculum, pastoral care, the House system, service projects, and community partnerships. There is a strong emphasis on student voice, balance, and personal growth, with resilience and healthy relationships as core aims. A wellbeing hub provides quiet support, and families participate through progress updates and reflections to support mental wellbeing.

Safeguarding

Safeguarding is the highest priority at Ash Mount School. Safeguarding practices are aligned with KHDA guidelines, UAE Federal Law No. 3 of 2016, and the Dubai Child Protection Law. All staff undergo robust background checks and safe recruitment procedures. A Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and a team of trained safeguarding officers operate across all phases, with regular safeguarding training to ensure swift and sensitive responses. The school describes safeguarding as a culture rooted in trust, vigilance, and compassion and works closely with families and regulatory authorities to address concerns promptly.

Ash Mount School, opening in August 2026 in Dubai's Mudon community, offers an education combining the IB framework (PYP and MYP candidate) with English National Curriculum standards. Catering to students from Pre-KG to Grade 12, the school grounds learning in inquiry, sustainability, and international mindedness. The campus features distinctive environments that directly support learning. Highlights include an amphitheatre designed to amplify student voice, loose-parts play areas in the Early Years section, and Wadi-inspired planters where students practice environmental stewardship through agricultural projects like hydroponics. Specialized spaces such as 3D sculpture studios, dance studios, and a dedicated wellbeing hub provide targeted support. A signature element is the school’s interdisciplinary focus, bridging subjects to tackle global issues. Students also engage in concrete enrichment programs, such as home language clubs, financial literacy sessions, and student start-up incubators, ensuring practical readiness for life beyond graduation.
