Wellbeing and Support

How students are nurtured, understood, and kept safe

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

Bloom World Academy supports Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) through a Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education programme that promotes personal and social growth. The school uses a Pastoral/Key Tutor System in which tutors meet students regularly to monitor academic and emotional needs and provide practical support. Each student has a Learner Achievement Passport (LAP) that maps a personalised timetable, targets and support needs, with progress reviewed monthly with parents and the student. The Emotional Wellbeing and Character Development initiative provides a structured focus on emotional, digital, physical and spiritual wellbeing, including a digital well-being curriculum and mindfulness-focused activities. The school is organised into seven phases under a Stage Not Age approach to ensure age-appropriate emotional and pastoral support, with a strong emphasis on wellbeing in the middle years and the option of Bloom Enrichment Learning Activities (BELAs) and a later start time to support wellbeing.

Special Educational Needs (SEN)

Bloom World Academy uses an inclusive model to support Students of Determination through an Integra Inclusion Team that provides staff training and planning guidance to meet diverse learning needs. The school adopts a Graduated Approach with Wave 1–3 levels of provision; Wave 3 may involve highly tailored on-site or external specialist interventions and an Individual Education Plan (IEP) for students with significant needs. The Inclusion Policy lists 12 KHDA-defined SEN categories, including Cognition and Learning (e.g., specific learning disorders), Communication and Interaction (e.g., autism spectrum disorders), Social, Emotional and Mental Health (e.g., ADHD, psycho-emotional disorders), and Physical/Sensory/Medical needs. All students identified as SEND have access to the curriculum through tailored support, with mechanisms such as the LAP and IEP to guide provision and progression. Depending on the level of need, Wave 2 supports may include Emotional and Behavioral Support Plans (EBSP) and counselling, with Wave 3 involving external specialists when required. The policy describes an inclusive approach rather than a standalone specialist SEN institution and emphasises removing barriers and providing timely interventions to help each learner reach their potential.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

English as an Additional Language Programme is delivered by English language experts to support students whose first language is not English. Students are formally supported to access the curriculum via an individual, tailor-made programme that is reviewed monthly with parents. If a student is not curriculum-ready in English, an intensive one-term EAL programme may be required, with additional costs. Provision for EAL is documented in the Academy's EAL policy, and the school notes that the level and pace of English acquisition vary by learner.

Mental Wellbeing

Emotional well-being and character development are central to the school's approach, with a focus on managing online life responsibly, resilience, and reflective practice. Students participate in age-appropriate mindfulness and safety sessions, supported by ongoing tutor and pastoral care. The Digital Well-being Curriculum is embedded alongside the broader wellbeing framework to foster healthy attitudes toward technology and social interaction. Daily interactions, personal development workshops, and the tutor-led pastoral system reinforce mental well-being across the student body.

Safeguarding

Bloom World Academy publishes a Safeguarding Policy, first released in August 2022 and last reviewed in August 2025, overseen by the Principal – Well-being and Development. The policy defines safeguarding and child protection, identifies the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), and requires immediate reporting with formal documentation (e.g., CPOMS) and a school-based response, including a safeguarding team and external referrals when needed. It aligns with UAE and KHDA standards, including the National Child Protection Policy in Educational Institutions (2022) and Keeping Children Safe in Education (2025), along with Working Together to Safeguard Children (2025). Staff are guided by a code of conduct and must be alert to signs of abuse, with safeguarding posters displayed in classrooms to identify safe adults for reporting concerns. All safeguarding actions are undertaken with confidentiality and in the best interests of the child, with the DSL coordinating investigations and actions.
