Parent Experience

Community, involvement and what it's like to be a parent at this school

History

GEMS Wellington Academy – Silicon Oasis opened in 2011 in Dubai Silicon Oasis as an all-through school under the GEMS Education network. It provides progression from the Early Years Foundation Stage through primary and secondary, with qualification pathways including IGCSE, GCSE, IB, A-levels and BTEC; it was the first British-curriculum UAE school to offer IB, A-levels and BTEC. The campus features a Performing Arts Centre of Excellence and extensive sports facilities, with specialist partnerships such as UDO, URDANG International, and The West End Stage that enhance the arts programme. In 2019, the academy expanded its curriculum to IB World School status and A Level delivery, supported by collaboration with ArtsEd, making it a notable IB/A-Level provider in the region. GEMS Wellington Academy – Silicon Oasis remains part of the GEMS Education network."

Community

The school describes its community as vibrant and inclusive, located in Dubai Silicon Oasis. It emphasizes a values-led culture with a House system and buddy relationships, alongside family-facing celebrations such as Family First initiatives. Wellbeing is central to school life, with the House System and the GROWELL framework supporting pastoral care and belonging. Primary and broader school communications highlight opportunities for student leadership, enrichment, and community engagement as core elements of school life."

Parent-Teacher Association

Parental involvement is coordinated through a dedicated Parent Relations Executive who handles communications and visits; contact is pre_wso@gemsedu.com. The school explicitly notes family engagement through Family First initiatives and house-based events that involve parents in school life. Wellbeing and mentoring are emphasized as part of parent engagement, with events and activities described as part of a holistic, community-focused approach. External sources describe a network-wide parent engagement culture, including ambassador-style programs that recognize parent involvement and referrals within the GEMS family (GEMS Ambassador Programme). The school also references wellbeing-focused parent engagement mornings and celebration assemblies as part of its ongoing parental involvement."
