Main languages of instruction are Russian and English, with Spanish offered as a foreign language. Nursery uses 80% Russian and 20% English distribution with a one-language-one-teacher arrangement. Reception uses 70% Russian and 30% English, with approximately two days per week with the English teacher and three days in a Russian learning environment. Primary School provides a 50/50 language distribution in core subjects.
AZBUKA uses a Russian-English bilingual curriculum. English and Russian are the main languages of the curriculum. Each class has two teachers dedicated to teaching in their native language, ensuring equal language distribution. Under the specialist programme, subjects are taught in rotation to develop vocabulary and skills in both languages, preparing pupils for secondary education in the UK or worldwide.
AZBUKA operates a Two-Way Immersion Development Programme. Most children come from bilingual backgrounds, with some from English-dominant backgrounds, and they are taught in both languages across Nursery, Primary and Secondary to keep and develop linguistic and cultural competence. On exit, children will be competent in written and spoken Russian and English. The programme embeds bilingualism across the curriculum and supports cultural competence.
AZBUKA Russian-English International School & Nursery is a London-based independent bilingual school offering EYFS and the British Curriculum for ages 2 to 11. The nursery is registered with Ofsted as the UK's first pre-school with a Russian curriculum for bilingual children, and the primary school at Studland Hall (Hammersmith) teaches a bilingual programme with English and Russian as the main languages. Class sizes are small, 8–10 pupils, with two teachers per class, each native in their language, ensuring balanced language distribution. The rotating specialist approach covers maths, English, science, Geography, History, Arts, Music, Design & Technology, PE, Spanish, Philosophy for Children, ICT and PSHE. The school emphasizes culture-rich learning, with school trips, productions, and community events, and prepares pupils for seamless transition to UK secondary education or abroad. Extra features include AZBUKA Saturday School, Cultural Centre and Bilingual Education Resource. The programme supports a culture-rich creative ethos and family engagement opportunities.
