St Edward's School was founded in 1863. Its origins lie in Victorian religious roots and, through the 20th century, it adapted to democratic, liberal and secular education to form the present-day St Edward's community. The school has weathered the disruptions of two World Wars and evolved in response to changes in society, becoming the modern community described in its archival history. The school maintains a long archival record and a large alumni network of Old St Edwardians (OSE), numbering over 9,000 members worldwide.
The school community includes current pupils, families and staff, connected to a large network of Old St Edwardians (OSE) who stay involved with the School after graduation. The OSE Society supports pupils leaving the School and maintains links with thousands of OSE worldwide, providing ongoing connection and mutual support. The Friends of St Edward's provides a social community for all those linked to St Edward's—pupils' families, past and present staff, and friends of the school—and is run by a Committee of staff and parents with House Reps who create events and initiatives promoting a sense of community across St Edward's. The school hosts a range of community and cultural events, including The Teddies Carol Services in the Chapel, Martyrs Sports Day, and OSE gatherings, and engages in local partnerships such as the Cutteslowe Community Partnership to support community activities.
The Friends of St Edward's is the school's parent and friends association (the PTA). It provides a social community for pupils' families, past and present staff, and friends of the school, and is run by a Committee of staff and parents with House Reps who organise events and initiatives promoting community across St Edward's. It runs both in-person and virtual events throughout the year, including house-specific coffees, and venues information is shared via the School's channels such as E-News and the Keeping in Touch newsletter. The AGM is held in mid-Summer Term, and involvement is coordinated through the Friends' committee and House Reps, with contact available through the association's details.
