Wellbeing and Support

How students are nurtured, understood, and kept safe

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

The Swedish School London emphasizes a close-knit community with a focus on respect, kindness, and empathy to support students' personal development alongside academics. Small class sizes and attentive staff foster individual attention and well-being across all sections of the school.

Special Educational Needs (SEN)

The site outlines a student support structure with mentors and coordinators to attend to each learner's development and welfare; it describes a caring environment but does not publish specific SEN programs on the pages viewed.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

English is given strong emphasis alongside Swedish; in the primary division, Swedish instruction is complemented with extra English in early years and additional language development to build proficiency in both languages.

Mental Wellbeing

The leadership and pastoral framework includes designated coordinators and mentors focused on student welfare and well-being, with a culture of respect and inclusion to support mental health and resilience.

Safeguarding

The school operates under governance by its leadership and board, with safeguarding and protection considerations embedded in its welfare and student support structures; specific safeguarding policies are part of the school's documentation.

Svenska Skolan London is an independent Swedish international school serving ages 2 to 18. It follows the Swedish national curriculum in a British context, with instruction in Swedish and some subjects in English. The school is operated by The Swedish School Society in London, a registered charity, and is supervised by OfSTED. Preschool (2–5), Grundskola (6–16) and Gymnasium are offered, with the sixth form housed at The National Archives site in Kew. The campus is based in Barnes and Kew: preschool and primary at 82 Lonsdale Road, Barnes, and the gymnasium at The National Archives, Bessant Drive, Kew. London is used as a living classroom, with the city's culture, history and society serving as learning resources. The bilingual environment supports language development in Swedish and English. Students benefit from small teaching groups and a track record of university admissions in Sweden and the UK. The school reinvests income into facilities.
