The Roche School

The Roche School prioritizes pupil wellbeing and provides a warm, supportive environment where pupils develop social and emotional skills, build confidence, and strengthen resilience. The Roche Approach expresses five values—Respect, Open Mindedness, Compassion, Humour, and Effort— guiding interactions and learning. Pupils are regularly recognised for demonstrating these values in weekly assemblies. Room at The Roche is a wellbeing drop-in space staffed by the pastoral care team, open during playtimes and lunchtimes, offering a safe place to talk about worries. Jemima, the wellbeing dog, supports pupils as part of the wellbeing approach.

The Roche School provides English as an Additional Language specialists who offer in‑class and small‑group support as part of core fees. They work with subject teachers to integrate language development across the curriculum, helping pupils to thrive academically. EAL lessons are active and use games and role-play to build confidence and fluency in a low‑pressure environment. The aim is to build every child's English skills and ensure a sense of belonging and confidence within the inclusive school community; the school also supports families as they consider secondary schools to find the right fit for each child.

The wellbeing of pupils is the highest priority; they should feel safe, respected and motivated to learn. The Roche School's experienced and caring teachers create a warm, supportive environment where pupils develop social and emotional skills, gain confidence, and strengthen resilience. The Roche Approach reinforces values that guide behavior and learning, including Respect, Open Mindedness, Compassion, Humour and Effort. The wellbeing program is supported by Room at The Roche and the pastoral care team to help pupils manage stress and other challenges.

Safeguarding is central to The Roche School's mission to provide a secure learning environment for every child. Safeguarding training and support are led by the Designated Safeguarding Lead, with all staff and visitors sharing responsibility for pupil welfare. The approach is grounded in Keeping Children Safe in Education and focuses on protecting children from harm, supporting healthy development, providing safe, stable and caring environments, and acting early to secure positive outcomes. Pupils are taught how to stay safe online, in public spaces, and in daily life, and are encouraged to speak up knowing concerns will be treated with care, respect and urgency. Safeguarding policies are regularly reviewed and embedded in daily life, with strong partnerships with parents.
